State sees best job growth in 17 years
MISSOURI — According to a monthly job report from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, the Show Me State added more jobs in 2014 than in any year since 1997. Missouri employers created 44,700 jobs last year.
Missouri’s unemployment rate also dropped to 5.4 percent in December, its lowest monthly level since April, 2008. A number of industries saw job growth in December, led by construction with 2,400 new jobs. Additionally, leisure and hospitality employment was up by 1,000, as was transportation, warehousing and utilities. Health Care and social assistance also experienced an increase of 1,000 jobs for the month.
